  • Tackling the causes of climate change requires decisive action and political leadership at a global scale, but it also relies on collective change by individuals, supported by local initiatives. Last year, DG Cities worked on a project with the Local Government Association to understand the range of neighbourhood approaches to decarbonisation. Head of Research and Service Design, Ed Houghton revisits some of the case studies.

The multidisciplinary DG Cities team provides bespoke neighbourhood-level consultancy services for local authorities and developers

We bring strategic, place-based thinking to the complex issues facing local authorities, from transport, energy and the impacts of climate change to the decarbonisation of housing. Through a comprehensive approach, which includes research, stakeholder engagement, analysis, future-casting, and report development, we empower local authorities to address the critical issues in their communities. We work with local authorities to set achievable, realistic roadmaps and then support their delivery. By tapping into our expertise, councils get the capabilities they need to measure, understand, and act upon existing and future strategies, and set in place tangible action plans to meet their strategic goals.
