Project Endeavour
The road to autonomous vehicles
Project Endeavour is a mobility project designed to accelerate and scale the adoption of autonomous vehicle (AV) services across the UK. The project consists of multi-location road pilots, simulation development, and extensive engagement with the public.
“Several methods are being used to reach the community and ensure the project is developed with end users in mind. ”
The role of DG Cities
DG Cities is leading community engagement and user research, designing a mobility assessment tool for decision makers, and is engaging local authorities and senior leaders to inform the development of future autonomous vehicle mobility services.
Several methods are being used to reach the community and ensure the project is developed with end users in mind. Large-scale surveys are being complemented by online workshops and focus groups which will provide in-depth discussion and exploration of the barriers and opportunities related to autonomous vehicle mobility.
The project is exploring the perceptions and attitudes of the public towards autonomous vehicles, and is working closely with the community to design the ride-sharing services of the future.
Why is this work important?
Autonomous vehicles have significant potential to positively influence how citizens travel in cities and urban environments. However, because they are a new technology there are still many questions about how AVs can complement other mobility services and the perceptions of the public towards driverless vehicles.
The community engagement work we are delivering as part of Project Endeavour will enable local authorities, policy makers and industry leaders to consider the views and ideas of the public in the development of future technologies and services, and will help to ensure that AV developers puts people front and centre of design and innovation.
