How Waste Collection Can Be A Force for Environmental Change

This week is London Climate Action Week, an opportunity for London to demonstrate to the rest of the country - and the world - its commitment to a resilient, low-carbon, greener future. And most importantly, the progress already being made to realise that.

Sustainability commitments can often sound broad and intangible, but work we have recently completed can provide a tangible example of how even the most polluting sectors in a city can be transformed.

That’s exactly what we have demonstrated in the electric Refuse Collection (eRCV) project. A culmination of years of development, testing, trialling, data gathering and business modelling, the eRCV project (part-funded by Innovate UK) successfully repowered four end-of-life bin lorries to be fully electric.

The vehicles were then trialled in two of the most testing city environments - the dense urban Westminster (London) and the hilly, urban and rural areas of Sheffield. These trials have enabled further understanding of the opportunities for electrification and repower within large fleets. Watch our project video to learn more:

Today, we’re excited to publish our Repower Guide, providing practical guidance on fleet electrification; consider it your how-to guide based on our real-world experience.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we’ll be sharing further reports and insights from our work on this project. In the meantime you can learn more about how we work with clients to electrify their fleets here.

If you’d like to discuss how we can help your transition to electric, then drop us a line at [email protected].
